Since I've been trying to use Adobe Catalyst to build a nice little Flash site a lot of the features I already had on there didn't carry over to the updated 5.5 suite. But I'm fixing it up again and put up some new finished work.

Art Out Loud and Spectrum Show

Okay so I'm pretty good at posting on my blog about events that have occurred a month before. So the Art Out Loud event and Spectrum Exhibition at the Society of Illustrators were amazing. Finally got to watch Donato give a demo and see James Gurney. There were too many incredible pieces at the Spectrum show to pick favorites. Also checked out Eric Fortune's meticulous work at the Lebasse Gallery.

So it's official! I'm not dying! That's a relief. After a month of doctor appointments and painful resting I'm back to normalcy. As normal as I can be. I've been chipping away at a few paintings but I'm really starting to pick up steam now. I'm working on 8 different paintings, some of which I'm just reworking incomplete paintings. Here's a quick peek at the one I posted up a while back.

I've got a lot of catching up to do!

Updates have been slow but it'll pick up in two weeks once I finish helping my mother move. I also have to re-open my laptop AGAIN and rewire the power jack so I can finally spend some time on the computer without worrying about it instantly powering down on me. Thanks Toshiba!

Dallas workshop

Okay it's been over a month since the Conceptart.org workshop in Dallas and I'm finally ready to do some show and tell. I took a lot less pictures and tried to get as much out of it as I could and I think I managed to walk away with a lot more knowledge than I did the previous year. The party was incredible and in conjunction with the AFI film festival. There were a lot of live painting and drawing going with live music on full blast. The workshop itself was really different from the Seattle one in terms of what there was to see and learn but there's still an insane amount of top professionals in the same room. Life changing once again.

So I made it into the Society of Illustrators scholarship competition with this painting. I'm very proud of this piece as it was an overdue and forgotten gift for a friend. Since this piece will be hanging up at the Society soon I guess I'll post it.

I finished this in the middle of January but I became pretty ill due to the all of the all-nighters I pulled to try to finish it on time. Unfortunately I missed the Spectrum deadline due to my negligence in printing. Oh well, there's always other stuff. After NOT staring at it for 8 hours a day I finally see a lot of things I could do to fix and improve the painting so expect a revised version really soon. I plan to include this, an older piece, and 3 more in progress into my portfolio for the workshop. It's PAINTING TIME!

Okay lots to talk about!

Just came back from a drawing session yesterday at the World Financial Center. Thanks to Tim, Bridget, Nick, Emily, Keysha, Shane and Lisa for making it out there. Here's some pictures I managed to capture while spending a few hours in the stunning weather which later became freezing.

Went a lot of awesome galleries and shows as well before heading out to Buffalo for a week. (Last week) Thanks to Emily, Bridget, and Keysha for coming along for the James Jean gallery, Illustration house, Arcadia gallery. Also later on the Morgan library again with Tim and Shane.

I'm signed up for the Dallas Conceptart.org workshop. Last year's Seattle workshop changed my life and I want another shot at it this year. Words can't describe how excited I've been. I just realized I never posted any of my 550 pictures of the Seattle workshop last year and since most of them were blurry because my camera isn't anything a professional would touch and I didn't have a tripod I'm only going to post a few.

Neglected update

Okay so I hadn't painted enough to merit an update but now that I changed my work schedule and got a few things done... I've managed to log in a lot more hours on this piece. Got my new Julian easel and all the materials for making some nice brown ochre gesso. I even got a whole new setup in my room for studio space. Pics to come once I tidy up a bit more. So here's two different stages of the painting I've been focusing on more than the others.

As for the drawing sessions, they'll be coming back in a week. Been doing a lot of life drawing at a life drawing session set up at FIT. But here is a picture from the drawing session at Madison Square park/Morgan library. Pictures from the New York Public Library at Bryant Park from 3 weeks ago will be coming once I get on Bridget's case. Thanks Krystal, Emily, Michael, Tasha, Yuka, Nick, Sun, Bridget, and Lisa for showing up!

Frank Frazetta museum!!!!

So we finally set off to the Frank Frazetta museum in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. It feels good to just decide to go somewhere far but reasonable for the sake of learning and looking at art. Thanks to everyone who showed up and made the trip fun and major thanks to Aiden for driving and letting us use his sweet van.

So I moved to New Jersey and had been doing a lot of stuff. Although I haven't done very many art related things I'll talk about my drawing sessions I've been doing every 2 weeks. We just get up and go to a random location in New York. It's been a lot of fun and I'll actually post some artwork and photos as they occur. (I still haven't replaced my scanner)

Just did a live drawing session, but this time I brought in my laptop and tablet. Even though I had to pop my entire laptop open to fix the power connector all morning, it felt really good to be working digitally from the model.

Went from the usual 2 minutes to 5 to 15 to 20s.

I decided to just use blogspot instead of coding my own blog for the sake of time so I can paint more! I submitted these 5 pieces to the FIT senior show for judging. Only about 70 pieces were to be accepted out of about 60 students... Unfortunately only projects that were done for school this year could be submitted. With that said...

The last three were selected for the show.
